Periodic-Service

At Extreme Marine

We pride ourselves on our team of trained, certified, and experienced technicians dedicated to ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of our customers' boats and engines adhering strictly to Mercury guidelines.

Our range of services includes:

Periodic Service (Major & Minor)

Following factory recommendations, we conduct periodic services based on engine hours or monthly intervals, prioritizing maintenance to maximize efficiency and longevity.

Advanced Midsection (Ams)

The Mercury Racing Advanced MidSection (AMS) isolates the powerhead from the transom to ensure run quality is smooth and quiet at all speeds and enables optional Joystick Piloting for Outboards.

Minor Periodic Service

This entails the meticulous replacement of essential components such as engine oil, gear oil, filters, and seals, along with thorough inspections in line with factory guidelines and usage conditions.

Performed at regular intervals—typically every 100 engine hours or annually (whichever comes first)—our minor service includes:

  • Engine oil and filter replacement using factory-approved Mercury Racing synthetic blend or full synthetic oils.
  • Gear oil replacement with premium Mercury High-Performance Gear Lube.
  • Inspection and replacement (as needed) of oil seals, O-rings, drain/fill gaskets, and crush washers.
  • Fuel and oil filter replacement, including spin-on and inline filters.
  • Visual and operational inspection of belts, hoses, rigging hardware, and electrical components.
  • Cooling system check, including water flow, hose condition, and leak detection.
  • Mercury G3 and CDS software diagnostics to scan for engine codes, update ECMs, and verify all performance parameters.
  • Greasing of steering and tilt mechanisms and other manufacturer-specified lubrication points.
Major Periodic Service

We undertake comprehensive service, including the replacement of critical parts such as anodes, spark plugs, thermostat, belts, impellers, water separators, and more, ensuring optimal engine performance and reliability.

Typically recommended at 300 engine hours or every 3 years, the major service is a full engine care package designed to overhaul all key wear components, including

  • Replacement of spark plugs to ensure optimal ignition timing and combustion.
  • Thermostat replacement for precise thermal control and cooling performance.
  • Drive belt and tensioner replacement to prevent failure and ensure accessory operation.
  • Impeller and water pump kit replacement to maintain cooling system integrity.
  • Anode (zinc or aluminum) replacement to protect against galvanic corrosion, with transom, trim tab, and internal engine anodes serviced or replaced.
  • Water-separating fuel filter and VST filter service for maximum fuel purity and engine safety.
  • Battery load testing and electrical system diagnostics.
  • Throttle and shift system check, including digital control calibration and Smart Craft or DTS system integration.
  • Full multi-point inspection of engine mounts, propeller shaft seals, lower unit integrity, and exhaust systems.
  • Comprehensive engine diagnostics with official Mercury Racing software to log runtime data, service history, and performance metrics.
